Housing Element Update
Corte Madera | CA
Plan to Place teamed with the Town of Corte Madera to implement a comprehensive community engagement and outreach strategy for the Housing Element 6th Cycle Update. One of the primary goals was to connect with all segments of the community as possible, particularly sub-populations that had not historically participated in the Housing Element process. Outreach included a town-wide mailer, banners and flyers, electronic reader boards, and social media campaigns, and outreach through community partners, all shared in multiple languages. Key components of the engagement were a six-part series of workshops, pop-up events and on-line engagement, and focused conversations with representatives of the affordable housing and formerly un-housed members, to understand their lived experience and solicit input on housing-related policy considerations and issues. The engagement effort also provided a unique platform for affordable housing developers and property owners of sites identified for affordable housing to engage with the community and share their insights and support for housing and the challenges they faced. The engagement process culminated with emotional community member recorded testimonials highlighting the impact of the housing crisis and support for drastically increasing the affordable housing stock in their community.
